9. The Capybara's Impressive Adaptability

One of the most amazing features of capybaras is their great adaptation to many surroundings. Although they are native to South America, these tough animals have shown themselves to be able to survive in several environments and temperatures. From tropical rainforests to savannas and even in more temperate areas, capybaras can be found in a variety of environments. They have been shown to fit human-altered settings, including suburban regions and agricultural fields as well as the edges of cities. Their different nutrition and capacity to change their behaviour depending on their surroundings help to explain this adaptability. Capybaras, for instance, may become more nocturnal in places with strong predator pressure to evade notice. Their capacity for swimming enables them to cross lakes and rivers, therefore colonising fresh territory. This adaptability has enabled capybaras to thrive in an environment undergoing change and even resulted in population increase in some areas.
