Overview of Bastøy Prison in Norway
Bastøy Prison, located on an island in Norway, houses a diverse group of inmates, including murderers, rapists, drug traffickers, and con artists. Despite the serious nature of their crimes, there is a notable demand among Norwegian prisoners to be transferred to Bastøy, reflecting its reputation as a progressive correctional facility. The prison focuses on rehabilitation through meaningful work, allowing inmates to engage with domestic animals on the farm and in the surrounding forests.
At Bastøy, all staff members are unarmed, promoting a non-violent atmosphere that fosters trust and cooperation between inmates and guards.
