10. Lavish Third-Century Home Found Under the Streets of Rome

In order to construct a new metro line, excavators began working beneath Rome in 2017. Rome is one of the oldest important cities; therefore, many fascinating artifacts were discovered. For instance, while excavating, workmen discovered the charred remains of a posh third-century residence.

A 1,800-year-old dog's skeleton, which was probably destroyed in the fire, was also discovered. The house was burned but was amazingly well preserved due to the ash left behind by the fire, which stopped the ruins in their tracks. Experts surmised that the owner of this house was a member of the member of the Celian Hill aristocracy.
