The explorers are unsure of the precise nature of this anomaly, despite their denial that it was a starship. Peter Lindberg, the captain of the Ocean Explorer team, described it as a "natural geological formation." Many people retorted, "Who said alien spaceships have to be made of metal?" to Lindberg's claim that this odd form wasn't an extraterrestrial spaceship because it was "not made of metal."
