KM-SAM Cheongung (Iron Hawk) of South Korea shows the nation's developing advanced military technological capacity. Although it shows notable indigenous advances, this medium-range system combines aspects of Russian S-400 technology. Using active radar-guided missiles, the system can target altitudes of 15 kilometres and distances up to 40 kilometres. While its mobility guarantees survivability in combat conditions, KM-SAM's high processing powers enable it to track and interact concurrently with several targets. Recent versions have increased resistance to electronic warfare and better capability against ballistic missiles.Sophisticated multifunction phased array radar built within the KM-SAM system can simultaneously engage numerous targets at once and detect and track up to 40 targets concurrently. Within 15 minutes of reaching a deployment site, the system may be completely operational; its vertical launch system offers 360-degree coverage. High accuracy even against manoeuvring targets is ensured by the missiles using sophisticated terminal guidance systems combining inertial guidance with active radar homing. A pillar of South Korea's air defence policy, the system's modular architecture lets constant advancements and upgrades possible. Recent improvements include increased performance against developing threats like stealth aircraft and low-flying cruise missiles by means of modified software and enhanced networking capabilities with other air defence equipment.
